Olga Goldberger

OKA Skin+Science was created by Olga Goldberger, a molecular biologist whose career spans leading American institutions, including Harvard Medical School and Brown University. Growing up, Olga watched the women in her family care for their skin using simple, natural ingredients—fruits, vegetables, honey, and milk-based remedies. What once felt like tradition revealed a lasting truth: skin thrives when nourished with pure, high-quality ingredients.

Despite the promise of modern skincare, Olga continued to struggle with dryness, irritation, and rosacea. Years of scientific research led her to a pivotal discovery—common emulsifiers used in most skincare products, even in luxury formulas, can disrupt and irritate sensitive skin.

When no product met her standards, Olga created her own.

Our Technology

Truth is, big companies produce skincare products that are largely ineffective and made with large amounts of emulsifiers, parabens, fragrances, and other harmful ingredients. Take emulsifiers: these surface active molecules (surfactants) have the useful ability to bind oil and water. And for mass-produced products, emulsifiers are the key to stabilization – extending the shelf-life. The problem is, emulsifiers aren’t so selective and also bind to the natural oils in the skin. What does this mean for you? Well, when you wash your face, your skin’s natural oils wash away along with the product itself. This ‘Wash-Out Effect’ leaves your skin damaged, dehydrated, and defenseless against outside elements.

So, this got us thinking...there must be a better way. [Spoiler: there is.]

After many years of research, Olga Goldberger identified a superior alternative to emulsifiers: naturally derived phospholipids. Not only do phospholipids function to bind oil and water just like emulsifiers, but they are even better agents of skin restoration and hydration. During production, these phospholipids form liposomes, which serve as an advanced delivery system for active ingredients. Using our cutting-edge technology, we encase and protect ingredients within liposomes, ensuring they remain highly active until they reach deep into your skin cells. At IOKA Skin+Science, we’ve developed specific products using NAD+ precursors, which stimulate the skin’s innate ability to heal itself. NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in all living cells and is responsible for helping to repair and preserve cellular health. Our NAD+ levels naturally decline with age, which causes visible signs of aging – fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and the like.

Studies show that we can delay cellular aging by increasing levels of NAD+ through upregulating NAD+ precursors. Those precursors include Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN for short) and Niacinamide (a form of Vitamin B3 and a well-known skincare superhero), all of which are stars in our skincare products. Speaking of skincare superheroes... IOKA products also feature ceramides, an important bioactive lipid that naturally exists within skin cells, making up 30-40% of your skin’s outer layer.

Their primary function is to help maintain hydration and a strong barrier against outside irritants. But, ceramide levels decline as we age as well. That’s why we include ceramides in many of IOKA’s skincare products - to help replenish and maintain your natural supply over time.
